Pretty Polka Dots

Polka dots have made a strong comeback from spring/summer 2010 and it looks like they're here to stay. While polka dots may seem complicated, too young, or even too difficult to match, a few simple rules can help you  transform any dull outfit into a chic, slightly retro and romantic look, even uber-feminine and sophisticated.

The key to polka dots, and the main rule, is to keep it simple - a dress, a skirt, a shirt or a blazer can be enough. If you're nervous about wearing polka dots at all, start by choosing only one accessory such as a scarf, a belt, a handbag and even shoes.

For an office summer look, a pleated dress will give you just the right amount of femininity and elegance. As for colors, a white dress with black dots is the best and safest choice. You can also match a black pleated skirt with white dots, a blouse with short sleeves and a bolero or a blazer. You can play a little bit and choose colored accessories especially.

For a night out with friends, match a pair of skinny jeans, a strapless breezy blouse with dots and high-heeled sandals, or team black high-waisted shorts and a red blouse with dots, and high heels.

For a more formal evening event, a '70s style black dress with white dots and high-heeled sandals is the perfect pair. Accessorize the outfit with a simple clutch and a pair of pearl earrings.

For Fall pair a pretty polka dot sweater with skinny jeans and boots or flats, or keep it simple and choose polka dot accessories like those below.

What's In My Purse

Have you ever wondered what other women carry in their purses? What little secrets do they carry inside those fancy little bags of theirs anyway? I carry enough crap that no little purse will do, unless it's an event or date night and I limit myself to a clutch with the essentials - cell phone, driver's license, debit card, lipstick/lip gloss. Forget about my glasses, Jonnie will just have to read the menu for me. Here are the essentials you'll find in my every day bag .....

1. Jonnie got me this pink wallet from Harrods on one of his trips to London.
2. Ice Breakers Duo Fruit & Cool in Raspberry.
3. Pocket mirror
4. Essie nail polish in Secret Story for on the fly pedi's.
5. Mary Kay Satin Hands - this is the best hand cream EVER.
6. Prada Sunglasses that Jonnie bought me a few months ago - my favorite!
7. Revo Sunglasses - a girl needs options!
8. Chanel Extrait de Gloss in Rouge Allure.
9. Verizon Thunderbolt
10. Small tape measure for  measuring furniture, art, etc.
11. Guerlain Terracotta Gloss in Porto Azzuro; this indigo lip gloss actually goes on clear and the undetectable blue tint makes teeth look instantly brighter.

High Five for Friday!

Happy Friday! Whew! It's been a long week so I'm linking up with Lauren @ From My Grey Desk to reflect and share five things that made my week special.

1. I discovered Kringle candles at New River Pottery and purchased the Watercolor scent. Kringle combined lavish floral notes and sweet fruit accords with a just-right counterpoint of sandalwood and musk to create this lovely scent.

2. I got my hair trimmed!

3. I had frozen yogurt at Honey Bee's with my friend's Joanne & George.

4. I had lunch at The George on the Riverwalk with my friend and neighbor, Tina Abbott.

5.  I received my new book Dare, Dream, Do: Remarkable Things Happen When You Dare to Dream by Whitney Johnson from Amazon.

Trends for Fall - Burgundy, Leather and Full Skirts

I know, I know, it's only the middle of August, but I've already got Fall fever, especially with some of the new fall trends. This fall look for burgundy colors, anything in black leather, and full skirts, like the pieces below. While I'm not crazy about the color burgundy, I found this sweater on Polyvore and I think I could pull it off with this cute skirt.
